Selection Process

BA , B.Sc & BMM

For all courses: You will be selected on the basis of merit and subject to availability of seats.

For B.Sc. Animation: You will be selected on the basis of the Entrance Test conducted by the University followed by a Personal Interview. The test will be for a duration of 3 hours. You will be required to execute the artworks within the stipulated time. The test is conducted to evaluate your sketching skills and creativity.

For BBA Programme: You will be selected on the basis of the Entrance Test conducted by the University. The written test is of one hour duration (50marks) focusing on general awareness and media awareness. After the written test, you will be required to make a presentation of 3 minutes on a topic of your choice.

Mumbai University (MU) is the oldest University which was established in 1857 and located at Mumbai, Maharashtra and one of the first three universities in India.  Several private colleges in and around Mumbai are affiliated to MU. It has established its name in industrial & International collaborations and runs various professional courses. At national level, it has excelled in sports, cultural and out-reach activities. The University was accorded 5 star status in 2001 & ‘A’ grade status in April 2012 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It has been granted University with Potential for Excellence (UPE) status by UGC and PURSE Scheme by DST.

In the last five years it has seen 104% increase in under-graduate students. The University of Mumbai is one of the largest universities in the world in terms of the number of students. More than eighty of its teachers are on various professional bodies. Moreover, eighteen National/International awards have been won by the teachers in the last five years.

MU offers Ph.D. Programme in the concerned subjects of research of the faculty of arts, commerce, science, law and technology. No other university in India offers such choice in terms of specialization. The programme is for a minimum of 3 years.

The University invites applications for admission to the Ph.D. Programme for the academic year. The admission to these programmes is done through Mumbai University PhD PET. This objective entrance exam tests candidates in relevant subjects of separate faculties. The applications for admission must be submitted by November 30^th, 2016 (tentative).

You should fulfil any of the following criteria:

• You should have a Master’s degree in relevant discipline from a recognized university with minimum 55% marks in total for general category and 50% marks in case of reserved category.
• You must have passed Master’s Degree by Research of this University or of any other University recognized by this University as equivalent thereto.
• You must have passed M.Phil. Degree examination of this University or of any other University recognized by the University as equivalent thereto.
• You should be a teacher having full time teaching experience of at least two years in Degree College or five years in Junior College.
• You should be a graduate of this or any other recognized University and working in National Laboratories/Institutes/Government/ Private Organization, nominated/sponsored by the respective employer.
• You should have qualified in /NET/SET/GATE/JRF examination of the apex bodies in higher/technical/ professional education such as CSIR/UGC/ICAR or other equivalent examination.

Note: A candidate belonging to backward class from Maharashtra state only is eligible for claiming seat under reserved category.

You can download the Application Form from the University website.

You should then fill the form with the necessary personal and educational details.

Application Fee: You should pay the following Application Fee of Rs. 1000 for general category and Rs. 500 for reserved category, either through

• Demand Draft in the name of ‘Finance & Accounts Officer of the University of Mumbai’ payable at Mumbai
• ‘By cash’ in Room No 13, Ground Floor, University of Mumbai, Fort, Mumbai 400030 during 11.00 am to 2.30 pm between 16th November 2015 to 30th November 2015 (except holidays)

You should enclose the DD / Receipt of such payment with the Application Form and submit the same to the Thesis Section Room No 129, 1st Floor, University of Mumbai, Fort, Mumbai-400032

If you are seeking exemption from PET , you should skip the above process, and directly apply through the process given below.

For Admission to Ph.D. Programme:

You should apply directly to the concerned Research Centre affiliated with Mumbai University.

You must pay the Application fee of Rs. 100 in the form of a Demand Draft or cash to the concerned recognized Research Centre of University of Mumbai within 15 working days from the date of the declaration of the Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) results.

Selection Process

Ph.D. (African Studies) , Ph.D. (Arabic) & Ph.D. (Education)

You will be selected on the basis of Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) followed by a Personal Interview at the Research Centre should you qualify the PET exam. The syllabus for Mumbai PhD PET exam shall consist of various topics in compulsory/core subject and papers of post graduate degree level of the exam prescribed by Mumbai University for the subject.

The question papers will comprise of three type of questions

• Objective type of Questions: 40 marks
• Short answers: 30 marks
• Long answers: 30 marks

You should secure a minimum of 50 marks in PET. The result of this exam is valid for a period of three years.

Exemptions: You are exempted from writing the test:

• If you have qualified GATE/SET/NET/JRF exam and are holders of teachers’ fellowships of apex bodies like CSIR/UGC/ICAR/ICMR/DBT.
• If you have completed an M. Phil. Degree from University of Mumbai as per the UGC guidelines from time to time.
• If you have completed an M. Phil. Degree from any other recognized Universities in India as per the UGC guidelines from time to time.
