41 private schools to refund fees as per Delhi High Court Order

The Delhi High Court has ordered 41 private schools to refund the extra fees charged by them in 2009 along with interest.A judicial panel in this regard was set up by the court, consisting of a three member committee in 2011 which inspected into the matter and gave the recommendation. The committee headed by former Rajasthan high court Chief Justice Anil Dev Singh, examined the financial records of 81 schools out of total 1,172 schools.A sixth interim report was then submitted before the bench was headed by Justice B D Ahmed. The committee examined the financial records of 741 private schools in the city, wherein it found that there was an unnecessary hike in the school fee which should be returned to the parents of the students. The step was taken to determine the validity of the city government’s February 2009 notification permitting them to hike tuition fees by scrutinizing the accounts of different private schools.

Attestation of documents by students for admission not required anymore- PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a decision to simplify the hectic process of applying to universities, schools and colleges, has conveyed that  students will no longer have to attest documents to their applications and only a self certification would be sufficient. The decision has been conveyed to Vice Chancellors of universities across the country to take immediate steps for implementing the orders. The authorities at universities have been given a week’s time to comply with the directions. The Commission as quoted in a daily reads “It is requested that the process of abolition of affidavits and adoption of self-certification may be complied with at the earliest and compliance report be sent to UGC with a week of the issue of the letter.”This decision would bring big relief to students as they were earlier required to wait long hours at the Gazetted offices running from pillar to post for attestation of mark sheets, domicile certificates, birth certificates etc for various admission and test taking purposes.
